DESCRIPTION
Our series continues in April 1997, when the next game in the saga was released - X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter. In my opinion, XvT is the worst game in the whole series. The whole game is oriented on multi-player. The single-player is only something like training for the multi-player. The game doesn't contain any real campaign with story and any cut-scenes (except intro animation). This game is very uncompleted.
XvT was great in technical aspect (resolution 640 x 480, all ships and space objects are fully textured, 3D acceleration with patch, better sounds and music from movies, etc.).
Player can choose which side of galactic conflict they'd like to be on - Rebels or Empire (change side consists one click with mouse). Player can fly in these starfighters: The X-Wing, the Y-Wing, the A-Wing, and the Z-95, on the Rebel's side, and the TIE Fighter, the TIE Bomber, the TIE Interceptor, the Assault Gunboat and TIE Advanced, on the Empire's side.
Multi-player itself is very good and has great playability. Every mission can play up to 8 players, which can play with or against.
Missions are divided in several kinds:
Exercise - training of basic controls (for 1, 2 and 8 players altogether about 16 missions)
Melees - In these missions, players fight in identical starfighters. (Classic Death Match - whoever has more kills, wins. About 11 missions.)
Tournament - Players can play against each other or in two teams (Every tournament consists of 3 melee missions, altogether 4 tournaments)
Combat Engagements - The Rebel's side has Operation Quick Strike. Imperial's side has operation called Clear Sweep (both operations have 8 classic missions)
Battles - The same operation as in Combat Engagements. Every battle contains several missions, in which two teams fight. Team with more mission wins, eg. 2 - 4, wins whole battle.
